The Starwood brand Aloft is making headlines due to its expansion into Long Island City, New York and it’s first property in Melbourne as well as additional Australian properties in development.

The Long Island City location will be the fourth Aloft property to hit the Big Apple. The 176-room Aloft Long Island City – Manhattan View is the first by the brand in New York’s Queens borough, and joins existing properties in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Features include free Wi-Fi, Recharge fitness center, grab and go food and beverage area Refuel, Wxyz bar, a rooftop terrace, outdoor courtyard, and 1,000 square feet of meeting space.

Commenting on the opening, Paige Francis, vice president, global brand management, Aloft Hotels said:

“Aloft is a great choice for Long Island City because it’s a young, up and coming neighborhood near Manhattan and Brooklyn with a large entertainment connection and diverse restaurants.

“The hotel offers travelers a compelling blend of leading-edge design, a tech-forward mindset and a buzzing social scene. Aloft is a hit with today’s hyper-connected global traveler, now offering more than 100 dynamic destinations worldwide.”

Meanwhile in Australia, the 176-room Aloft Melbourne South Yarra is scheduled to open in 2019, and will be located within a new mixed-use development on Chapel Street, home to many of the city’s boutique shops and restaurants. Facilities will include the brand’s signature Wxyz bar, Recharge fitness center and Refuel 24-hour grab and go food and beverage area, as well as a rooftop terrace, swimming pool and 300 sqm of meeting space. The mixed-use development will also feature ground floor retail spaces, conference facilities and 40 “exclusive residences”.

The hotel joins two other Aloft properties currently under development in Perth (due to open in 2017) and Adelaide (2018).
