May 21 National Vertical Marathon, Singapore

Designed as an alternative to conventional flat-road marathons, National Vertical Marathon (NVM) is a race that sees its participants scale the entirety of a skyscraper. The 2017 event takes place at South Beach tower and the climb brings participants up through a challenging yet manageable 34 storeys, before descending 13 floors to an open finish point. Standing against the backdrop of Singapore Arts Science Museum, The Singapore Flyer and Singapore’s unique landmarks


June 13-16 Summer X Games, Minneapolis, USA

Adrenalin will be pumping at Minneapolis at this year’s action packed Summer X Games! This Summer X Games will be the first held in the Midwest and the first of two X Games events to be held in the state of Minnesota with another planned for the following summer in 2018.

The games are an extreme athletes dream as some of the world’s best action sports athletes compete for medals and prize money in BMX, Skateboard, and Moto X disciplines. If you are heading to watch rather than partake then there is an opportunity to get even closer to the action as this years games is the first to offer limited floor access available.


June 24 The Calcio Storico Fiorentino Final, Florence

Calcio Storico is a combination of soccer, rugby and wrestling that originated in 16th century Florence and played in historical costume. The final between teams from the Florence region takes place on June 24th takes place on the same day every year to tie in with the festival of the patron Saint John. As well as watching this epic and historically rich event you can also enjoy a parade that starts in Piazza Santa Maria Novella and heads through the center on its way to Piazza Santa Croce and end the day’s celebrations along the banks of the Arno to watch the spectacular fireworks launched from Piazzale Michelangelo.


June 30-Jul 1, Wife Carrying World Championship, Sonkajärvi, Finland

That’s right, ‘wife carrying’ or Eukonkanto originated in Finland and this world championship -contest has been organized every year since 1991. There are many folklore legends that offer explanations of how this tradition originated but whatever the cause this bizarre event is now a hugely popular for locals and visitors from afar! The event sees contestants face an obstacle course across a variety of challenging terrain, all whilst carrying their wives.


Jul 18-30 Deaflympics, Samsun, Turkey

This inspirational multi-sport event is an International Olympic Committee-sanctioned event at which deaf athletes compete at an elite level. Unlike the athletes in other IOC-sanctioned events, the Deaflympians cannot be guided by sounds.


Aug 7-16 World Police and Fire Games, Los Angeles, USA

This incredible event is an Olympic-style competition with 10,000 athletes representing law enforcement, firefighters, and officers from corrections, probation, border protection, immigration and customs from 70+ countries across the world competing in 60+ sports. The first Police Olympics were held in San Diego, California in 1967.  San Diego Police Captain Veon "Duke" Nyhus recognized the need to promote physical fitness and camaraderie amongst members of the law enforcement community. With the continuing success of the California Games, planning began in 1983 for the first World Police & Fire Games, which were held in 1985 in San Jose, California. The aim of the World Police and Fire Games is to offer the same variety of sports, and same high caliber of venues, officials and athletic achievement as the California Games, but on a global scale.
